Oregano ist das wichtigste Gewürz in der mediterranen Küche. Bestimmt denkst auch du an eine leckere Pizza.
Ursprünglich stammt der Oregano aus dem Mittelmeerraum. Doch mittlerweile ist er auch bei uns heimisch und wird meist Dost genannt.

In der Natur findest du Oregano in trockenen und lichten Wäldern und an Weg- und Waldrändern. Auch sonnige Hänge und Hecken zählen ebenso wie Mager- und Trockenrasen zu seinen beliebten Wuchsorten.
Die 40 bis 60 Zentimeter hohen, vierkantigen und aufrechten Stängel verholzen nach unten hin leicht.
Die Blätter sind eiförmig bis länglich und leicht behaart. Sie sind etwa drei Zentimeter lang, entweder ganzrandig oder schwach gekerbt.
Anbau und Pflege
Oregano möchte einen sonnigen Platz mit sandigem Boden. Die Pflanze ist auch für die Kultivierung im Topf geeignet. Er ist ein völlig pflegeleichtes Gewürzkraut, das nur sparsam gegossen werden muss. Am besten du pflanzt den Oregano gleich zu den Tomaten, dann hast du kurze Wege bei der Ernte.
Eine neue Studie zeigt, dass Oregano auch ein gutes Vergrämungsmittel bei Käferbefall in der Speisekammer ist.
Oregano gegen Blattläuse
Für die natürliche Bekämpfung von Blattläusen gibt es viele Möglichkeiten. Oregano kann in Form eines Wasserauszugs ebenfalls helfen.
Übergieße 100 g des Krauts mit einem Liter kochendem Wasser und lasse es ungefähr 15 Minuten ziehen. Danach verdünnst du es im Verhältnis 3:1 als natürliches Spritzmittel.

Ein Extrakt aus 100 Gramm getrocknetem Oregano auf einem Liter Wasser beugt als Badezusatz Grippe vor.

Abseihen und in dunklen Flaschen oder Gläsern aufbewahren. Du kannst das Öl nutzen, um betroffene Hautstellen zu massieren. Es ist besonders wirksam gegen Hautausschlag und bei Insektenstichen. Alternativ ist es auch eine hervorragende Zutat für hausgemachte Salben und selbstgerührte Cremes. Die Heilkraft des Oreganos kannst du auch nutzen, indem du deine selbstgemachte Naturkosmetik mit ein paar Tropfen des ätherischen Oreganoöls anreicherst. Beachte jedoch: Trotz seiner heilenden Eigenschaften sollten Schwangere bei der Anwendung von Oregano vorsichtig sein!
